This computer wasn't stock... I didn't know what components I wanted, but I knew what I wanted them to do... I wanted them to play Diablo III. And, three or four years ago, they would have.

My system is 32bit, video card is 1g.

I think I could get away without upgrading the video card, but game play would be nicer with a new one. I don't know if my motherboard can handle a newer model, though.

I dont think you will need a new one. My other computer has a vid card that is older then yours and my wife played diablo 3 with me just fine. The only thing I think you need is more ram on your comp. My wife has 2gig and hers slows down a bit but only everyone once in a while. Honestly I think your good just need ram.

This is my area of expertise :-). Your computer will play diablo 3 with just an upgrade to 4 gigs of ram ( about 50-100$). U won't be able to run highest graphics but diablo 3 isn't as much about graphics as other games anyways.

With the setup you have, I would buy and play the game first before investing in anymore RAM. Your system sounds good to go.

I agree on not spending much before you make the decision on wether or not u want to replace the whole comp. however your systems biggest weakness is the 1gig of ram and fortunately the kind of ram u need is super cheap. Try running diablo with at least 2 gigs. If you just do nothing and startup diablo your pc is below the minimum suggested specs on the box. This will probably make the game choppy and unbearable. Computers have really gotten better about not becoming obsolete so quickly. The other components in your machine are still in the lower end of mediocre ( which is good for being 5 yrs old. I'm 99% sure your comp uses ddr2 ram. Google how to remove ram from your computer and watch a YouTube video on it. Then remove a stick of ram out of your comp and take pics that show the numbers on it and post them and we can help you find cheap ram on amazon.

    4g?! Wow.

I figured I'd need another gig for sure. If I'm going to order online, I might as well get more...

I'm not up to taking apart the pc right now. It's high up on a shelf with cords tightly wrapped and out of the way of parrot beaks (my birds like to climb the shelves). I'll try to get to it this weekend.

Diablo III is the only thing I asked for my birthday, so I'm fairly sure I'll have a box in hand by the end of the week. I hope ram ships quickly.

If ram is so cheap, is it really worth getting online instead of at a place like altex?

Install the game, see how it plays. If you like it, keep it how it is. If not youtube some Diablo III videos and see what the graphics are like on other people's comps. If you really want better graphics, then start researching what's best on your box. Altex only sells off brand RAM(unless that changed since I worked there) , and it's not anywhere near as good as you can find online. First thing I would do is to start researching your board, and try and find out what is proven to be the best RAM for it. There's almost always a review on every board. If not find one that is similar. Make sure you have an ample power supply to run your video card!

One extra gig did the trick. Game play is fine, and while I'm not happy about the decade long wait, I'm happy to finally have Diablo III! Now I just need to find more time to play...

Awesome! I knew that would do it.
