Lighting???

I currently use the "Current Nova Extreme Pro T5-HO" lighting system and changed my bulbs out back in December. While I get decent growth out of my sps and little to no heat output, 90% sure I'm making the switch to a Metal Halide T5 fixture. Just noticed fellow members tanks and growth is explosive compared to mine. Anyone notice the same thing?

love my decision to stay with MH and t5 fixture. at moment I've been using 10k bulb with great growth on the new fixture, even with my old fixture that old bulbs I still saw great growth. just make sure you get a fixture with 4x t5 to get max color out your coral. maristar is releasing a new fixture $550 without ballast or bulbs but good reflectors. also love the lumenbright fixture, I hope to move to the one day.

MH is the standard without a doubt.....

T5s are good.....

Leds are new and IMO not there yet but close.... But great for replacing t5 in supplementing MH.

I tried the swap to led and so far I have mixed reviews.. Going to give it a little more time before swapping back to MH.

If I go back to MH it will be a combo of MH/led.....




My opinion on LEDs is based on the AI SOLS, I have only had them a couple of months and will give them another few months to decide whether I'm ditching them or sticking with them....

I'm also a MH fan. I have done T5 before but wasn't a big fan of the cost to replace bulbs. I also would only run T5 with LED as supplemental light in order to get the shimmer effect. I have never done LED as main lighting except in a small nano so I guess I can't be completely unbiased. I'm just not attracted to the unknowns of LED longterm and I see too many people going back to MH and T5...though there are some nice tanks out there that claim to have LED over 1+ years.

But...I prefer my MH with LED as supplemental lighting. I'm sold on LED strips... I like them all, stunner, lumen, powerbrite etc.

Rob but most of the peeps that switch back do so in a short period of time...
Which I don't blame them if they have too much invested in there tank.... Its too much of a risk.

I am hoping I am getting over the "shock point" in my tank... Most claim things look better after that point.


Hey did you notice ecoxotic released 24"-48" panorama strips? That would be sick on the side of some MH. One all blue, one magenta and blue or 2 of each... Lol I will probably go that route if things don't turn around in a few months...
