    Default Tank Crash

Well folks I had what you would call my first "major" tank crash. Over the weekend I left with fiance Sheila to go out of town and sometime during the weekend our A/C went out. Well the house got hot and so did the tank thanks in part to the metal halides, and it killed of most of my corals (even shrooms) and fish. Well first off how big of a water change would you recommend for a 90 gallon tank? Or do I need to do smaller changes to slowly equal everything out. Secondly how do you pick yourself up from such a crash? I was tempted to throw in the towel last night. Money is tight, so how do you rebuild on a budget?

do a big water change at this point your starting over, 40-50 gallons would be ok. start running fresh carbon. as soon as you get the tank on track I can give you some frags to start back up, you can come pick stuff out of my tank. good luck and just hang in there.

Thanks for the frag offers! Did a major water change last night, will be checking parameters later.

We feel your pain, but at least you know what crashed your tank. We are still dealing with ammonia with our crash. Best of luck with yours...

I hope the bad theory of 3 doesn't happen here on MAAST? Over the years my AC has gone out and I thank my controller for shutting down my lights. Mike and Cowboy hopefully everything gets back on track.

If you're worried about the rule of three...I think we're okay. Pretty sure my mini-crash should count as the third. Lost 4 fish, fortunately didn't have much coral yet. The stingray survived, and the magnificent foxface has been in the HT. Had a big diatom growth/death shortly after I had added some large fish, and the biological filter just couldn't handle it all. Had some ammonia and nitrites, but it's much better now. So...hopefully that makes the 3 and everyone else can be okay! Mike and cowboy...best of luck. Let us know if there's anything you need.
