    Default Sand

Hi everybody.. It's been a while since I have been on or asked anything. Well my tank is doing fine it's been up for six months now and everything is going great.. I have a quick question. I have a two inch sand bead of white sand. I want black sand now or maybe a mix of black and white. Is it safe to put black sand in my tank? That is on top of my white sand.. I hope so. Can someone let me know. I'm not gonna take out my white established sand or anything it's a 14 biocube so maybe a ten pound bag will do right? Or less?

    Thanks,
    monica

By the way I want to get some corals like a frogspawn or maybe an anenome or a mushroom or if anyone has a Midas blenny..

I just like how the rocks stand out and contrast against neon corals. Want a change also. Can I just put the black on top or do I have to replace the whit with it?

Your pushing the limits on sand depth now. I think you should take out some of the white first so you don't end up with a bed any deeper than you have now.

I think you are right. This is what I want to do... I want to siphon all my water into a big bucket, take out my live rock and clown and firefish and snails and corals and blade them in there with the heather and air stone, then take out the white and rinse tank well then put in the black and then put rocks back in and the my water and fish back in and everything.. That's my plan.. What do u think?

lol I have a little of everything in my sand. From tanks through the past years. You are the artist. Make your creation.
Just remember you put stress on your critters and tank system if you remove everything and start over.
If you are looking to add some fine sand to the top of your sand that would be great. And it will show off the other colors in the tank.
Just put a small layer on top of your existing sand to add color dont take it all down. just my thoughts
Just put the black sand around your rocks. You dont need to move the LR.

If you add black to the white it will inevitably end up mixed into a black/white. I don't prefer this look, so my vote goes against adding it to the top. Not to mention I thought that was a no-no? Doesn't it trap the detritus and life in the sand bed which can cause an ammonia spike the bio may not be able to handle? While you certainly can make any changes you want, this is one of those things best decided before starting a tank.
