Default Today is a sad day

This morning, Nicklas Lidstrom officially announced his retirement. I know this may sound trivial to some people, especially in Texas, but as a die hard Wings fan, this is truly the end of an era and extremely sad day for me and Hockeytown. He was the team captain and arguably one of, if not the, best defenseman to ever lace them up. Stick taps to The Perfect Human (that's his nickname).

For comparison, it is similar to when Tim Duncan retires.

What's hockey? Just kidding. Sorry for your teams loss. My girlfriend is a Sabres fan and I am a sharks fan. Wings are a formidable team. But not anymore!!! Just kidding again. May he retire in peace.

Sharks? I think I just threw up a little...I wish I could say I was joking, but sadly I'm not. After consecutive 2nd round losses to SJ, I have developed a hatred for teal. Enjoy Brad Stuart next year, he will be missed. That's how it goes though, one of my best friends is a Pen's fan....ack!

I have a good friend who runs an inline hockey rink in Buffalo. He too, for obvious reasons, is a Sabes fan.

This is not just a loss for the team, this is a loss for hockey worldwide. I'm glad he didn't stick around too long though. Some guys don't know when to call it quits. It would pain me to see Lidstrom on the 3rd pairing.

I'm from Cali and was raised on the Sharks. My girlfriend is from Rochester east of Buffalo so that is her team. But I know what you mean. I unfortunatly don't follow hockey as well as I use to. Being away from an NHL team or ability to watch one takes the some of the fun out of it. I go to the Rampage games from time to time to watch Yonkman crush people into the wall. But it's just not the same.

I feel ya. I get Center Ice every year and also run a private site we stream Wings' games on. I watch at least 82 games a season. I go to the Wings' 2 games in Dallas every year too.

I go to Rampage as much as I can, I always go when our affiliate team plays them for sure. Yonkman is a beast. I miss Lessard.

I know what you mean though, the Wings could have a big game or whatever and nobody around here knows or cares. I wish I was around a hockey atmosphere all the time, which is why I really like going to Rampage games, just to mingle with hockey people.
