    Default Gee, thanks.

Today I decided to find out why the rear end is leaking on my old 4WD. Well, I found it. Apparently the idjit that owned it before me can't read directions. When replacing the pinon bearing, one must always use a new pinon nut, or risk having it back off. Well, this person DID reuse the nut (the red loctite was a dead giveaway), and the nut backed off just enough to let the bearing and slinger come forward, pushing the seal forward as well. Yay, now I get to put a new crush washer, bearing, slinger, seal and NEW PINON NUT on. At least no damage was done while the bearing and slinger were banging around in the housing. Bearing cup looks good, no damage to the shaft, and none to the yoke. And I found no metal shavings when I pulled the back cover off and drained the pumpkin. Whew. It could have been a lot worse, but not exactly how I wanted to spend Sunday. Good thing I like turning wrenches

Of course, everything else leaks too. It IS a 4WD after all. Next project, new output seal on the transfer case......yeah, it's leaking too

I loved rebuilding my rear dif on my old bronco. Parts ran about $250, spent a day rebuilding it... Then $500 for a mechanic to redo all my work.

Well, mine stayed fixed once I got it all back together. I must have done something right

    Yay Sherita!
I hate it when people are being cheap on the little stuff.
We just replaced the barn roof. Super scary, way high, nothing to hang onto other than screw heads and then my husband plans to reuse the screws from the old panels (tin roof so the screws have little rubber washers on them)! Like hello ... going through all this work, anxiety and effort and then risking leaky roof because the old rubber washer thingies may be brittle now. Totally silly...

Don't reuse them unless you want to do it again. I have put on plenty of metal roofs in my time as a contractor, and the washers will eventually leak if reused. You are right, silly.....

I took the truck out for a test run this evening. No vibration, no noise, no slop in the driveline during shifting. It appears that particular problem is fixed. Of course, I still have a cracked exhaust manifold, and I really need to do a full set of ball joints on it. It's never ending around here.......my work truck needs u-joints, my minivan has what I think is a ball joint pop, and my one ton van randomly refuses to start. Oh yea, the a/c quit working in the work truck, and doesn't work in the four wheel drive.

I am no longer amused with this situation.
