Where to buy cheap safety or climbing equipment?

Anybody knows a place that sells cheap safety equipment or maybe even climbing equipment?
I need to fix the barn roof but our barn is very tall and the galvalum is pretty slick - only got the nailheads to hang on to with my toes I guess.

So I'd like to get a safety harness somewhere just in case... would be ironic if was back to riding horses and then brake my back falling off the barn! Who sells that sort of thing?

If it is for a one time use you can make your own harness from webbing. It is in no way comfortable, but will work. Check with Good Sports, Sun and Ski, and Notional Outdoors for the webbing, rope, and carabiners.
I will also check to see if I can dig up anything for you.

Did you get some wind damage from the storms?

No. When I designed the barn I thought some natural light would be nice so in addition to the galvalum sheets we added some clear plastic sheets not knowing that they would eventually crack and break apart. So now instead of skylights I have large holes in the roof. :(

I am taking these pieces of junk off and replacing them with all galvalum. The galvalum is 9 years old as well but still looks like the new. The plastic sheets were fabulous the first year and then just got worse and worse over the last few years.

So if you are building something, DO NOT use these clear plastic roof panels (unless you plan to replace it every few years)

Karin, if you have some way to rig a taut static line, we have a mast climbing rig on the boat you are welcome to borrow. It comes with the static line. Here's a video on how it works:

Be careful, and don't throw a line over the barn and tie it to a pickup truck on the other side, without telling your husband. Don't want him driving off...

Good to know about the plastic things. My buddy builds decks/patio covers and we were thinking about using them on top of an arbor to let the light through but protect from rain. I'd imagine they are not cheap, especially if you have to replace them like T5s.

Karin there is a product called safety in a can $79. I think Mid Coast Sling or Northern Tools carries them. Then you just have to set up a tethering line to tie off to.

rrasco, there may be different kinds. What makes me feel really stupid is that the owner of the barn we used to board our horses at had the plastic sheets and I really liked the look of it because you get so much natural light. I told her we would incorporate that in our barn design and she said NO: they really suck and crack.
But I figured I'd be smarter and buy the heavy duty gazillions of years warranty stuff. Well it cracked too and I didn't keep any receipts. Should have listened to her to begin with. :(

Yes, Bill, I may even just hook it to a tree rather than trust the husband to remember -although I am sure he will be there to micro manage from the ground ;)
