Show off ur clams!!!!
i always wanted to start this thread....not really a clam person but would like what u all got.....and which pattern or color can be considered a rare clam???......need a clam expert!!!lol

My new thorny oyster.
I had one before but sold it off when my big tank burst because I was worried about it during the transition. I missed it lots and so I got another one just recently. It's not opening up as wide as the old one did but I am hoping with time it will

Chris, that's a crocea. Looks like avila has a derasa and a crocea.

how can you tell the maxima and crocea apart? I had a maxima that looked a lot like the clam in the last pic.
By the way my clam book says: derasa and similar like to be on sand. Maxima and crocea prefer to be on rock.

Thanks, from the pic I posted the left one is Deresa and the right one is Maxima.
Im not an expert on clams but from the pics it looks like the shells are different. Croceas have an even/smooth shell. It might be some difference in coloration too.
