    right now, the deep sand bed and water changes. if needed, i can remove the pump from the closed loop and put in a canister filter in its place.

    I'd recommend adding a canister. And please, for the love of god, don't add JDs to a malawi tank. Besides their varying needs for water conditions, things won't work out in the end. They named them after a boxer for a reason.

    well, just couldnt get into this tank set up with cichlids. gonna go in a different direction.
