""Many clinical nutrition books discuss biotin (one of the water soluble vitamin B complex) as being an essential nutrient which can be bound by avidin, which is found in raw egg white. This binding prevents it's absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. Fortunately cooking deactivates this effect of avidin, and egg yolk is so high in biotin content that biotin deficiency does not occur when whole raw eggs are fed. So, whilst biotin deficiency is a potential problem - in reality it is unlikely to be seen in domesticated animals unless they are fed an extremely imbalanced ration that is predominantly egg white."

Oh good info on the eggs. I've gotten into a habit of just tossing the dogs an egg on my way back from the barn (lazy butt version of raw food diet) and didn't think much of it...

Well I hope you get Jade's gas problem under control. That can't be pleasant in a small apartment...

My Bengal is on a 100% raw diet. He gets chicken, beef, organs, skin, bones etc. We do add a supplement called missing link and fish oil to his raw stuff. We do not grind it up, just simply cut up and portion out his meals and freeze them. He eats better than we do! He's 17lbs of pure muscle with the softest, shiniest coat you'll ever see! If I could get all of our animals on raw, I would.

We fed semi-homemade for a while and had really good success with improving the allergic reaction that I was having to our dog. For a while I would break out with red rash-like bumps all over my arms within minutes of contact with Cleto's fur. After reading up on the subject we began introducing meals that were roughly a third meat, a third rice or pasta, and a third veggie. Often we would comment that our dog ate better than we did.

Soon the meat portion was commonly substituted for canned dog food out of convenience. Then we gave up the whole thing when we added a second dog and she would not touch the veggies. By then my allergic reaction had completely subsided so it became just the occasional treat. We still read the dogfood labels and stay away from the cornmeal and sawdust ones.

Picasso, Pheobe & Pheonyx all get a serving of cooked beef liver at least twice a week on top of their own IAM's Dry Dog Food. They occasionally get to eat what was left over from dinner. They love the cooked meals.
