Default RKL on the fritz again

The last few weeks have been really rough here and it just is not ending! GRrrr

This morning I decided to upgrade the firmware on my RKL.
Why? I don't know. I should have learned from decades of computer upgrades to not.ever.upgrade.anything!!!!

But somehow I am still falling for this.

This morning I had a fully functioning RKL with 2 PC4s, 1 SL1, ATO, pH, temp, etc.

    Tonight I have nothing.

    Everything bombed.

At first the SL1 failed. Fine I can do the top off manually and use my old Pinpoint meter to monitor pH.

A few hours later the system went nuts and gave me a module Limit error.
I erased the ghost modules. Nothing. I did a factory reset (because lets face it nothing is as much fun as reprogramming 8 outlets for the 3rd time in a day). Still nothing.

    I give up!

I have the RKL also and have never done an upgrade and after seeing this, never will. I did an upgrade on my phone once and it was the same thing it erased everything I saved to it including all my phone numbers.

Yes I so wish I hadn't done this. Too late :(
I expected it to erase my settings but at this point it can't even be reprogrammed. It's just utterly useless.
And no response from tech support.
I was pretty loyal when the PC4 went out but I think I am ready to give up on DA. Couple of hundred bucks down the drain for a stupid 'upgrade'.

I am hoping they will let me send the SL1 back in and hopefully replace it. The question is when they will respond. It's so aggravating to wait for a response...

On the plus site: I got the head unit and the two PC4s back on track!

My temp probe seems shot and I'll jut buy a new one. But I only bought the SL1 in February and am hoping they will replace it on warranty.

Lesson learned: if it works don't try and fix it.

I have and older RKL system on the Reef tank (had it from the tank I had before) and I just don't update or mess with it and it's never given me the slightest problem.

Upgrading firmware can often be a pain. There are tons of tiny things that could go wrong and leave you with a "brick". As of late, I have noticed it happening a lot less lately, although it does still occur. Hopefully they get back to you and are able to talk you through reloading the firmware, unless it's completely shot.

That's what fixed the head unit. I just reloaded everything and did not reconnect the one that crapped out during the initial process.
At least that gave me back the basics (head and all PC4s). Unfortunately the SL1 resists any attempt to reload with 'programming failed' :(

I got my return authorization so it's going in the mail in the morning. We'll see what happens when they get it
