A behind the scenes look, the setup AUGUST 19, 2011.

It's school supply drop off night and the classroom is looking 95% spiffy, lol. I had 16 out of 19 students (family) show up to meet me and drop off their supplies. That's a good showing from my experience. Most parent were excited to see a male kindergarten teacher; the rest were just surprised, lol. Excuse the pictures, I placed the stacked chairs in their correct places and wiped down the tables before the kiddos and parents showed up.

    First day of school today...

    5 nervous kindergarten teachers,

4 kids left over at dismissal time (we got them home!),

    3 crying kids,

2 conference periods (PE and lunchtime) spent with the kiddos instead of doing paperwork,

1 nervous break down (a kid, not mine),

0 kids lost at the end of the day!

    I'm glad to be home.

Congrats Christopher on making your fist day of Kindergarten and being an elementary teacher because students may not always remember your name they will always remember you.
St. Monicas 46 years ago my kindergarten teacher was Ms. Stacey or Lacy. I can still remeber her face just like my 1st grade teacher who might of been Mrs. Stacey?
2nd grade Sister David Marie (never forget her or the Nun who gave out licks for missing homework every morning, half completed half a lick)
    3rd grade remember her face
4th grade remember her face (Converse Elem)
    5th grade Mrs. Mueller (OLPH)
6th grade Mrs. Blodgett (Converse Elem)

Well, two weeks in and I'm still alive. I've been busier than ever and fall asleep early every night. I've got a good group of kiddos that are excited to be there and have (mostly) taken well to having a male teacher so early into their schooling. I look forward to the next 34 weeks of learning.

You're right alton about remembering your teachers. I can remember most of my teachers names but their faces have escaped me.

It's all about the $$$ or rather lack of $$$. Teachers spend lots of their own money on the classroom each year. I just changed grade levels and had to spend even a bit more than I originally anticipated. I did have a nice offer of a 12 gallon NC donation but it is a bit too far for me to travel and pick up at this time.

You would be amazed at how often the kids ask, "Can I go home now?" As if the time they spend at school is flexible. Honestly, it's kind of cute (coming from a 5 year old).
