scratched tank

okay so i work next to this Asian food place and im in the getting lunch and i notice they have a 135 gal tank and stand filled with crap and sitting in the back. i ask what they want for it they said it holds water and they would let me have it for 200 bucks, i offered 100 due to the scratches everywere and they agreed cool. so i am gonna reseal it tommarow just because it realy looks like it needs it but is there anything i can do for the scratches at least on the front lol. and its not predrilled i wonder if i should go overflow or cannester any tips help

DRILL IT ! You'll regret NOT doin it ! And is the tank glass or acrylic ?

+1 on drilling

If its glass, you might want to think about replaceing just the front glass, and just let coraline algae cover the rest of the tank to hide all the other scratches. If its acylic you can buff some of the shallow scratches out, but the really deep ones you will have to live with.

Since you are planning on resealing it I'm going to assume that the tank is glass. Drill a glass tank is hard work but from what I understand, WELL WORTH IT in the end. Just take your time. As far as scratches, you don't have many option. If you really want the scratches gone, a replacement pane seems the way to go (but may be expensive).

very cool. it is glass and i am resealing it, but how do i know if its tempered glass and if its okay to drill? i would love to drill it. im just very intimidated lol. and were would i drill it at on the tank? the bottom? im new to this d.i.y process but it u could give me alittle direction then ill post my progress for sure

The only way I know to find out is to check if the glass is polarized and that requires special glasses. When I got my 30T drilled I wasn't afraid of it shattering because it was a small tank now on my 240 that was a diff siutation ! But I didn't drill the bottom. There is a guy in Houston that can help you out if you send him an email here's a link http://www.wetdryfilter.com/drilling_holes.htm Putting your holes is all in preference, I've got 5 holes in the back glass of my tank 3 in the middle for the internal calfo drain and 1 at either end for returns

Dont know about that kit but i have worked with Caswell in the past and they have been great .
