baby gorgonian (kinda)

I just added a really small gorgonian to my 20 gallon, it dosn't look sick or anything, but the polyps havent come out since I got it, on the plus side it has grown pretty fast in the past two days, currently it is about one and a halph inches now. I have been putting phyto in my tank every other day for about a week before I got it (Why? Because I had it and why waste it?). So is it too early for the polyps to open? Its the red and blue type. This is my first gorgonian, I only got it because it was 4 dollars because it was so small (It broke off of a bigger one). And I trust the store, because I used to work there, and I know how they handle their corals!
Also is it supposed to grow up the rocks in my aquarium?
Any answers or comments would be apreciated

Grown fast in two days??? Man, don't ask questions and keep doing what your doing. In two days (if thats how long youve had it) it's definitely too early to worry about polyps opening...plus there are so many other variables...is it photo, or non photosynthetic? Polyps may be coming out at night - flow may be an issue...ect. If the store was reputable they should at least give you an ID...or an idea on the ID.

Its non photo, im just worried that it wont eat in the future. But other than that no other worries right! Any specifics you feel i should know about gorgonian care and what not?

we would like to see a photo of your gorgonian to help you with its care. If it's non photo synthetic and it's not eating then it can't be growing either. Sorry :(

Non photosynthetic. The live phyto is good, but they're still hard to care for. It won't encrust on the rocks, it grows in a branching formation. Be careful about where you put it or glue it. Flow is important, too much or too little can be harmful. A low light spot is best; since it doesn't need light you want to prevent algae from growing on it.


When you purchase something, try to write down the name right away. Ask the employee who bagged it for you to write it on the bag if you're prone to forgetting.

Of course, researching before buying is always best... but we all make impulse buys. Doing the research after is better than never.
