Default Water Birth Spa...pump got wet...help..?

Figured the GURU's who use external pumps on their tanks might be able to help me out.

So...I was setting up a SPA that we got the other day (to be used as a water birth pool since our tub is too small) and when I turned it on it had a leak. I quickly turned it off and spent a little time trying to find the leak. It was one of the union nuts from the pump to the spa.

After cleaning up the mess, which wasn't bad because I used a thick pond liner under it, I found that the pump got wet because it smoked a little bit. Turned it off and I'm debating turning it back on tonight to see if it still works.

Fortunately I have 2 spare pumps for it but I'm not sure if either work. They look brand new though. I'm certain one doesn't work though as the previous owner said one was a replacement from the manufacturer from a previous spa they owned and one was for parts.

Anyways....ever have an external pump get wet? Did it work afterwards?

    Thanks.

open the rear end and let it dry good.. looks like that model might have bushings, pull em out and make sure they are good and dry..as long as its not still wet and causing it to short, it should be fine

haha...you ARE a GURU! THX for responding. it's the only external pump I have ever used on anything.

I have dropped my cell in water before...I opened her up and let her dry for a week and she worked...lol

Let it air dry and squirt some WD-40 on it. The "WD" in "WD-40" stands for "water displacing"

A SPA? Dude, I thought this was going to happen at the lake? Do some BBQ'ing, fishing, and have a baby all on the same trip.

Rob, it should be just fine. They are made for the environment - as Jack said, try spraying it with WD/40, if you want. Otherwise, just make sure it's well dried.

thanks for the replies everyone...just finished! Spent the last hour in some bubbly with wifey...lol

So, I drained tub, took apart the pump and dried it out along with some WD-40 on the bearings as suggested and then filled it back up to another leak. UGH. Stupid union nuts! Got the pump wet again...drained it out and repeated everything again but this time I swapped pumps and fortunately the other pump was good as well.

Long day/night. Thanks again for the help. I hate plumbing.
