    Default RO/DI's and freezing temperatures

When I lived in St. Louis my RO/DI system was in the garage, just like it is now, safe from any overflows and very conveinent with a drain and plumbing. Then winter came along and the temperatures dropped and my filter system basically blew up when it froze. I dont know if its going to get as cold this week as they say it is but Im never taking the risk again, my rodi is back in the house for the week.

Sherry lost hers that way - it popped when it froze. Mine's in the laundry room. Couldn't be more convenient for me and safe.
A good reminder though for those that keep them outside!

Yep - you learned the hard way. Freezing temperatures will destroy an RODI. Likewise, keep your system out of the sun as well.

so are u telling me mine is no good anymore. mine is outside. it froze and when it defrosted the inlet line for water had sprung a leak. so i disconnected it. i havent gotten the new fitting to see if that was the problem.

i am no russ, but i bet any ice crystals that formed in the membrane chamber could really mess up that membrane. should be pretty easy to check once you get the new fitting and get it running again.

Chances are your membrane will be ok. Thaw it fully before use. Same with the DI resin - let both the resin and membrane thaw at room temperature...

The damage I'd be more concerned about it to all the plastic parts. After you hook yours back up, turn the water on slowly and be prepared for leaks. If you can't see cracks and have no leaks, you may have gotten off light!

Thanks Russ and ace. Think im just gonna order a new one. This unit has made a lot of water for me so prob time for new filters anyways. But I only have ro no di and my tds was 35 the last time I checked it. So ill check out ur site for prices. Looked at the 75gpd one. It leaks at the water inlet connection so don't know if plastic line cracked at the compression fitting.

OK - the fitting itself may have cracked.
