I just tested my water for Calcium levels and it's currently at 520... Is this too high? If so, how do I lower it. I just recently did a water change today.... Thanks..
For me 440ish has always been a sweet spot....but with regular water changes I'm always around 500+ as well. I don't think it can be too high....it can be too low. How is your Alk and PH?
You using salifert?
lol, I just found my phone too : )
I have seen a lot of tanks run fine with a PH of 7.8...I maintain 8.1-8.2. I think I heard Ace recommend opening a window or door for a bit several times a day because CO2 could be built up in the home. Might try that to help raise the PH. Oh a bunch of plants help too...Karin posted a list awhile back of the ones that help. Also...what salt are you using?
One important factor with reef tanks is stability...the ability to keep your tank stable. So...try and take notes on your parameters for a week, at both lights out and lights on....even when the lights are at their peak. Try running a 24 hour light period too. That means when the display tank lights go off then your refugium lights come on...this not only helps with PH but also with temp.
What a better time to have a window open than now... It will give me a reason to use our fireplace that I have yet to be able to use. As for salt... I buy my water from the lfs and they use KENT salt. Oh and I don't have a refugium... I really need to show you a photo of my tank... I'll be sure to shoot one to you tomorrow... That way you can see why I don't have all the fancy bells and whistles.![]()
sounds good...they make some pretty cool HOB (hang on the back) refugiums. I used one on several tanks before. They look cool too.
