    Those out there with them, do you clean them out? If you do how often. I have one on my and never really have thought about cleaning it. Till I found a big clump of hair algae in one of the corners. I pulled it out only to discover it full of amphipods. The small piece I did pull it I shook it in the tank to get all the pods out. My question is do I leave it or do I pull it.

    I dont clean my overflows. Mine dont really get alot of light though. If you are worried you could always have someone build you a black acrylic cover to keep light out. Im sure sponges would thrive in there if you did that.

    I like looking at all the life in there. I have some kind of algae that grows out of the water like a little bush.

    I leave it alone, kind of like a algae scrubber.
