Slow computer help
OK so my laptop is finally annoying me to no end. It is a dell inspiron 1525 with factory installed upgrades.
Specs are:4.00 GB ram, Intel Core 2 duo processor, 120 GB HD.
I am running windows vista home, can get another copy if needed (school bookstore is nice its like 20 bucks)
I have McAffe and it says its updated but I doubt it (again I can get a free copy from the bookstore if needed/recommended)
I have also tried Avast after it was mentioned on another thread (neither security program detects any viruses or anything during a full search)
if you need more let me know i will find them.
Problems:
1) It occasionally shuts down or goes in hibernation mode during use. - a quick press of the power button brings it back up to login screen and after logging on everything else comes up
2) Occasionally these shut downs turn into blue screens of death storing memory before a crash or something like that
3) overall the system seems to be moving slowly and at times lags behind. I will be streaming music from AOL radio and playing a simple flash game from freeonlinegames.com and it will lag.
the biggest problem I am having is overall with it just randomly crashing causing me to sometimes lose progress on powerpoints or word docs.
I have tried to do virus scans and defragmentations. neither works more than a day or two if it does anything. the defrag display doesnt even show that its that fragmented when I do it
any help, provided its good ;) is welcome
