I'm not quite as eloquent at writing poetry for my wife as I should be.... however.....

    My Love.....

    Oh how I love you
When I look at you I am giddy like a child
Love is deep, as is the ocean blue
Like a hurricane you drive me wild

I spend money on you without a thought
With each shimmer I see, I smile
The UPs and downs, the love I've caught
    Keeps me looking awhile

I work and strive to be better for you
So much elation, so many times my heart has sank
I'm off to Lowes for more super glue
Oh how I love you reef tank.

am I the only one that doesn't get poems? I'm not trying to be mean, I just never get them. I don't even try to get/understand haiku poems anymore. I guess my brain just don't work that way, maybe I should've paid more attention in english class.

    Ok...I'll finish it

Why are they das and glad and bad? I dont know. Go ask your dad.
Some are thin and some are fat. The fat one has a yellow hat.
From there to here, from here to there, funny things everywhere.
Here are some who like to run. They run for fun in the hot, hot sun
    Oh me! Oh my!
    Oh me! Oh my!
what alot of funny things go by.
Some have two feet and some have four.
Some have six feet and some have more.
    Where do they come from?
    I cant say.
But i bet they have come a long, long way.
    We see them come.
    We see them go.
    Some are fast.
    And some are slow.
    Some are high.
    And some are low
Not one of them is like another.
    Don't as us why.
    Go ask your mother.

I don't think they have to rhyme anymore.

When I went off to train to defend this great country I promised my wife that I would write her every single day. So she got seven letters a week for seven months. There were times that my letters would take on a poetic quality. Not for rhythm but through the cadence and word choice.

Bear in mind I was a newlywed and still caught up in the newness... Oh, and we didn't have email at the time. Had to use something that's now called snail mail. Didn't have computers, and a palm pilot meant something entirely different to us.

I've just decided not to give her any kind of poem. If we make it awhile, then i may. Like Allen and Rob said, I feel all stalky-like. Thanks for the advice guys.

Hey, I remembered a poem that really stirs my heart...

    Hail O Hail O Infantry,
    Queen of Battle follow Me,
Nothing in this life's fer free,
The rest is not coming to Me,

Sorry guys, forgot the rest... but man. You get 60 Soldiers singing that while marching at 6 am blasting out windows and setting off car alarms... dang, brings a tear to my eye.

Wait a minute dude, she your girl now??? If she is there's nothing wrong with a little poetry, just don't give her the one about marriage. And recognize that although poignant and awesome... this will not be the last girl you date. Er, I hope not anyway.
