Asian market?
I'm going to try DIY fish food soon. I want to add more variety from stuff you'd have to get at an asian market. Does anyone have one they'd trust/recommend? (Preferably on the northeast side, but I'm willing to travel if necessary.) Any particular brands or products to recommend?
I'm wary of getting stuff from an unknown source... but it's the only way to get the variety I want.
I'll eat lukewarm sushi that's been sitting out at HEB, but my fish deserve better.

I get my stuff from HEB... but the selection is limited. Shrimp, scallop, octopus and squid. I buy it raw, freeze and blend into two or three grades.

How well does it blend? Can you mix it with stuff like mysis and brine?
I've got some clam strips I put through the food processor... it made a nasty gooey mess but the fish *love* it. It's so thick it froze into a glue paste, so I'm hesitant to mix it with the other daily diets. I'm afraid it will be worse than a gel binder (which I hate).
This is going to take some experimenting.

Use a "chopper" instead of a "blender". This might help not make it a gooooey mess.

If you get fish eggs look at the ingredients. I never found any without additives such a s soy sauce etc.
They drove the skimmer nuts. I ended up putting them on crackers and eating them myself while watching the fish...

Asian market?
I blend at purée for jus a few moments for the medium grade. Always frozen. Then I put the stuff into ice trays and freeze hard. Then I chop into smaller bits kept in a tuppleware thing.
For my Lps I do the same thing only I blend until a goopy mess. Them I put that into a ziplock and smooth it out nice and thin and flat. Then I freeze. When I need to feed the coral I use the scientific method of "breaking off a chunk" thaw and feed.

Asian market?
Oh, and the fish eggs... I've given them out of the bottle, and I've rinsed them... And the fish don't eat them. I will be danged if I ever attempt to teach fish to enjoy caviar.
