Thread: How big is your tank, really?

Default How big is your tank, really?

I was curious about actual water volume before I start doing any kind of dosing.

I have a standard 90, but with sump and fuge I figured I was at about 100g of actual water volume. I knew there would be some displacement from rock and sand, some extra volume in plumbing, etc. I was surprised when a system volume calculator put me right back at 90.1 gallons.

    I used this calculator:
    http://reef.diesyst.com/volcalc/volcalc.html

Anyone use this one, or have another one I can try to compare?

I would start dosing as if it was a 70g then test and up the dosage from there. Just my 2 cents.

Don't worry without ever useing 2 part before, It will take awhile to get all the levels up were you want them I would think.

I will have a massive sandbed in my next tank and already used a calculator like that to figure out that my water volume will only be around 170g in a 215g with a 55g sump.
I am dosing the bulkreef stuff so it's easy to keep track of it and calculate/adjust.
