I just thought I should mention that the plastic grain scoops sold at feed stores are great for scooping sand. It is build to hold weight and it has a flat edge that makes getting sand oput of your tank very easy.

Thanks, I have put together and taken down many sandbeds and broken the handles on several plastic pitchers as well as destroyed many green nets, one of those would have come in handy.

I have destroyed all sorts of plastic pitchers and nets too. The scoops only cost about $3. I have had several of these scoops for the last 6 years for animal feed. Why didn't I ever think to use them in the aquarium until just a few days ago?!?
