As long as it is the right depth, and it would be better in a chamber that doesn't change water level. There would be no difference between a sump and tank.

I have one in my sump. It's the Remora Pro, though, which I think is bigger than the regular one. I built my sump with 4 chambers: bubble trap, skimming chamber, fuge, and return. To get it to stand up, I *very carefully* used a router to remove the acrylic nubs on the bottom that the plastic screws go into. It would be very easy to ruin your skimmer this way, so make sure you practice a lot on scrap acrylic if this is what you want to do. You could probably also stack acrylic pieces or something below the unit, and in between the nubs (is that the scientific term?). You could probably also weld a new acrylic base onto it, but this would make the skimmer very tall. I like the spout to go into the water a little so it gets rid of needless noise, and a new base would have precluded this. Also, be sure to keep it from being flush with the sides of the sump. If this happens, and the water level rises a little (clogged divider teeth, etc.), the water will wick right up between the sump wall and the unit, and over the edge of the sump. I found that out the hard way.
