    Default Prop Tank Questions

I've had my little 20 long prop tank setup with a aquaclear fuge and little Biocube skimmer and a good chunk of LR. I'm wanting more room, better volume and filtration, so I just ordered everything I needed to drill it and a sump/fuge/better skimmer. I have a few questions about substrate. I planned of having the skimmer/LRR in the first chamber of the sump with small DSB/Cheato in the second.

What I have questions about is the display. I'm going to be using Mag 3 for return with K1's for flow. It's not a ton of flow, but water does move around. Is is worth it, from a filtration aspect to add a small sand bed in the display or is it mainly done for asthetic reasons? I only have a six line wrasse and CBS in there along with a few snails, so bioload won't be much. I'm also debating having an egg crate bottom or just a shelf up top. A lot of the frags/colonies I want to grow out in there are on rocks, not plugs.

For those of you with grow out systems, what do you prefer?

bare bottom in the tank will make it easier to siphon detritus provided you can get under your frag shelf. if you add sand for aesthetics, keep it shallow (around 1") and use special reef grade. the particle size will keep it from blowing around as much.
