    Thumbs up I like it!

Just wanted to say how wonderful it is to see sponsor stores reply to inquiries with good and honest information even if it means missing out on a sale at times.
Of course it's disappointing to be told 'this is not a good match for your set up' but I think it's so much better to know stuff like that than to hand over a check for a critter that's doomed from the get go.
Gives us a chance to get a different set up or a different critter and enjoy success rather than misery.

Anyway just wanted you to know it's not going unnoticed ;)

Gabe brought up a very good point in another thread that's quickly going down the toilet, so I'll post this here:

Thanks Gabe, for bringing up a very good point… that is actually one of the reasons I became involved with GC Reef in the first place. Personally I could care less about selling someone an octopus (or any other delicate fish/invert for that matter)… I would rather see someone be successful because it means they’ll enjoy this great hobby and more importantly, successful hobbyists will have a greater appreciation for our oceans (and all that lives in it) while having a lower impact on natural reefs!

The problem is, that some sponsors/other stores don’t care about any of that, and if they can make a buck then they will! This actually ends up turning into a lose-lose situation because if a customer buys things that end up disappointing them, they’ll either lose interest entirely or stop shopping at that store (never mind the moral and ecological implications of the wild caught animals). So, in reality it pays to be both an informative retailer and an informed/open minded customer. The only way to invoke this type of change falls entirely into the lap of the consumer. Consumers dictate how stores operate… NOT the other way around!

Great dialogue! There are so many difficult ethical issues in this hobby. The deeper in I get, the more complex it gets.

agreed. That is how I met Gabe before he opened his own place. Everytime I buy something or have an interest, he quickly runs down my list of occupants to make sure I won't have compatibility issues or size restrictions. I love Responsible sellers.

Hats of to both GCReef (Brad) and Gabe's Fish (Gabe) for promoting responsible reef-keeping/hobbyist. It is unfortunate some people won't listen, especially for the livestock involved.

I really dont understand what is funny bud.. You ask for help and people offer it and now you wont take any advice that is offered cause its not what you want to hear..And now you know everything you would ever need to know cause you researched it for a week .. Now thats funny!!

Not quite as hilarious for the livestock (or the wallet) I am sure.

On a positive note I guess in smaller tanks it's easier to afford to just replace the livestock frequently. In bigger tanks that type of stocking plan is a little more cost prohibitive...
