Battle with Backyard Weeds

I have recently declared war on the weeds in my backyard. Anyone here good at gardening? I am not much good at it (would rather be playing in saltwater), but they are over taking my backyard.

I have tried round-up and while it gets them, it also gets the grass. I am now just pulling them up by hand one at a time...uggggghhhh!!!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Feel your pain....we are also pulling them one by one....front yard looks great but the back....man.....they are like mini bushes!

You can only do so much at a time.....

I will work an area while my son is on the trampoline and then I go throw those weeds away. I walk back to check on him...and I am like...where did all these come from. I was just working in this area and there are still more than I can count!!!

At least I know I am not alone!!

this is a long term fix. but...... make sure you are fertilizing at least twice a year, aerate at least once a year and top dress with a good compost at least once a year..NOTHING beats a healthy lawn for weed prevention....short term.. pull what you can and KEEP grass mowed often

What weeds are you getting into trouble with? Dicots can be killed easily as grasses(lawns) are monocots. A broadleaf herbicide will do the trick. I am not too big of a fan with fertilizers but compost is a great solution like Texreefer mentioned. New Earth on IH10 going towards Seguin has a compost called Landscapers Compost. This will give you all the nutrients you could want at a very reasonable price. Dont ask what it is though although once you are there you will have a good idea. lol

I have clovers. I root them and in a week they are back and blooming.

Clovers can being broadleaf will die from a decent broadleaf herbicide. Home Depot or lowes will have some. The one we used for landscaping isnt available there as we got it through a commercial supplier but if you ask at any of the stores mentioned above they will have something similar for sure.

We love our goats for weed control. They totally eradicated poison ivy for us. Plus they're cute and non-toxic.
