    Default skimmer vs skimmer

why does my cheap berlin airlift skimmer (airstone skimmer) work better than my seaclone 100

airstones are still the most consistent form of making really small consistent sized micro bubbles. These smaller micro bubbles increase the surface area in which the proteins have to attach. That and the seaclone skimmer also (no personal experience with one) has too turbulent water/air mixture which doesnt allow for the bubbles to properly froth and form a head, on top of having larger much less surface area bubbles for proteins to cling to.

i guess the only downside to the red sea berlin airlift is that you have to buy wooden airstones once they go bad. 11 bucks for a 3 pack

yup, airstone skimmers are some of the cheapest to buy in but some of the more expensive to keep up with. Is it a counter-current skimmer? (bubbles go up water goes down)
