Gluttony
Sponge Bob almost died last night.
I fed the fish (I typically do this since they don't do it for themselves) and even saved a big piece of squid or octopus leg/arm that was in the mix for SB. See, when I put food in there he ignors all but the big pieces so sometimes, in keeping with Karin's mantra, I feed him specially and often by hand.
He got the big piece and I stepped out of the room for awhile to do something else. About the time I came back he was swimming around bumping into the glass and rock with a large piece of food hanging out of his mouth.
I watched for a few moments until I noticed that he was just trying to keep it from the others but that he was becoming lethargic.
Acting in the quick and decisive (dare I say heroic?) manner bred of many years of combat experience (one year) I reached into the tank and gently picked up SB. I gently pulled out the food that was stuck in SBs mouth. It was a rather long piece that I imagine stretched into his gullet.
I then put the fish on top of the tank and began to give it mouth to gill resuscitation (wow, hard word to spell) to get it breathing again.
Ok, I didn't really do that.
I gently placed SB back into the tank and watched for awhile as he drifted around breathing frantically. I was a bit worried because the normal bright yellow was turning dark and splotchy. He drifted to the bottom of the tank and rested on a shroom with its horns wedged up under a rock. He sat there for a few minutes, maybe ten, watching the other fish and keeping an eye out on me.
Do fish sit? Don't you need legs to sit?
Anyway, about ten minutes later his color was back and I cleaned the glass with the mag float right in front of him and he returned to swimming around the tank.
He didn't seem hungry after all that.
I would have taken a picture... but I really didn't have the time.
This morning SB is alive and looking for more food.
