However, we are constantly reviewing these rules to improve our system and make this forum the best that it can be for all members: web members and charter members alike.

The finances of this forum are openly posted in the BOD minutes (see link in one of the boxes at the left of the screen) and more information can be found under "About Us" and "Membership." We use the funds for a variety of things, such as the cost of having the online forum (hosting company) and also to get educational events for our membership (again, open to both web members and charter members). This past weekend we had a great educational and informative presentation on Reef Biotopes at our monthly meeting, which was free for all members to attend, both web members and charter members. In 2009 our speakers included Bob Fenner, Mark Levenson, Anthony Calfo, and Eric Borneman. There are always some expenses associated with these sorts of events.

Hope you will join us in the future if you are interested in learning more about reefkeeping and getting more involved. We are currently beginning plans for our annual conference, TMAC (Texas Marine Aquarists Conference) which will feature some educational speakers as well. The date has not been finalized, but should be in the fall sometime, thinking possibly October.
I checked that out already, but there is no spending report associated with it. As far as the cost of running a website.. Don't get me started on that, because I host one in my office for NOTHING, and manage it myself. My business website hosted elsewhere that costs me maybe $200 for 4 years. As far as educational speakers, I'd rather pay to go to one of those than pay to use a website. I also do not agree with having to pay to list items in the for sale thread or WTB thread. I'm wanting to buy a lot of stuff, but I can't post anything because I'm locked out. I also have some stuff I'd like to sell, but I'm locked out of that too.
If you want to enter the photo contest you should pay to enter. If you want to go to an educational event, you should pay to go to the event.
Web fees are minimal.. Heck, Ill host the site for free. Most of it sounds like my HOA.. Bad management of money, ridiculous spending, and unreasonable fees. After all.. this isn't a business, or is it?

We vote on it. Who knows what everybody's criteria is and why they vote for a picture. This month's topic was schooling fish and the winner was a pair of clownfish (not exactly schooling fish ). So what. It's for fun.
(I voted for it because I really liked how the anemone looked. LOL)

I think it's great because it's not so rigid in regards to what can and can not be posted or what the criteria should be. How would we know who has the healthiest fish from a photo anyway?

It is an aquarium forum - with a photography section!

I hope we will continue to reserve the right to post our less than perfect pics and pretend it's a real photography contest.
For a lot of us our photography skills as well as our aquariums are a work in progress. I don't want to wait for everything to be perfect until I can particpiate...

    Jake,

If I may. Can I ask you what exactly your intentions are now that you are a web member for this website?

    Just a small tank...

Sir, if you came here to start trouble, you will not be welcomed here on the board. If you find our website so disagreeable, please find another board to post on. However, if you came here to educate, be educated or participate in what we consider to be our family, please stay.

I've locked this thread. It is not productive or informative.
