Interested how does this work with movies on my iPOD touch?? Will they look good on the big screen or is this mainly for downloaded movies?

i dont know the answer to that. you are correct, it is primarily for downloading movies and for converting your existing movies to appletv format. had you done that, i have no doubt they would look great on both devices. however, since you went straight to the touch, i doubt they have the resolution needed.

you are welcome to buy it and see

When you say converting existing movies to appletv format, what type of movies are you talking about?? I have several movies that aren't converted to my ipod how does this convert them?? If it's still available by the weekend I may grab it from you to check it out.

i know lots of people who have converted their existing movie collection (dvd, bluray, etc) to appletv format and storing it there. some even went so far as to sell the dvds and use this to fund their never ending collection.

appletv and ipods use the same format mp4. if i understand correctly and depending on what tools/presets you used stuff formatted for appletv will work on ipods by default but not necessarily the other way around depending on what resolution was used to format them.

there are TONS of tools that you can use to rip/format. IMO handbrake is the bees knees

+1 on handbrake... also, these can be modified to take other software forms as well, so that conversion of your movies is no longer necessary... but thats a whole other story Its a trade-off to do that -- you lose a lot of the nice Apple features, but gain a lot of compatibility range..

with most mods the apple features are 100% intact. my only problem with hacked was the cpu/memory isnt strong enough for h.264/mkv

also, one of the greatest features of the appletv is its ability to stream/share itunes content somewhere you wouldnt normally be able to ie home theater, bedroom, etc
