30 Gallon Filter and Skimmer

Do yall think i should have Filter and Skimmer? I have a fluval 205 that is connected but not running yet. I bought a cheap Visi-Jet Protein Skimmer but im regretting it since i hear its pretty much worthless (dont ask me why i bought it, thought it was going to be better than *nothing*). What yall think i should do? Trying to avoiding spending 70-100 for a skimmer even though i know it will be worth it in the long run.

Edit: Might return Visi-Jet for Aquatic Life Internal Mini Protein Skimmer. any success with these? I have read better reviews.

are you planning on running a fuge i have a eshopps skimmer ill be selling cheap soon, i got a bigger skimmer, if you have your own ro/di or plan on buying water and doing weekly water changes you wont need a water skimmer, prob get away with biweekly changes if your bio load is low, if you can ide go with a fuge and ditch the fluval but it can be done with a canister filter just a lil more maintenance keeping fresh media in it

Yeah im trying to keep this tank on a budget, already spent more than i wanted to but its coming along real nicely. So im going to try and use my old Fluval to save money.
