Question Couple fish with ich... fish affected by loud noise?

So this is crazy but I can't figure what's going on...my tank parameters are in check. My purple tang and kole eye have ich.

I have never had a problem with ich in the past and I have narrowed it down to two things:

    1) My temp... has been unstable the last few days with 5+ swing... I added another heater to help stabilize the low temps

    2) This one is going to sound crazy but I think the ich could have been caused by the stress my fish may have gotten as a result of the LOUD Karoake playing over the last 3 days (continuous play). The tank and PS3 are in the same room...living room.

    Your thoughts...?

I would have to hear you sing to determine if it's bad enough to cause ich! ;)

A 5 degree temp swing sounds like a lot though

i agree with karin, probably the temp swing.

cant comment on the karaoke, as my singing would definitely cause ich at least

I'd also agree with the temp swings - but the noise could also be causing stress.

My hippo has been scratching itself the last couple days, also trying to keep my temp up and stable. I haven't been singing to my fish though... Although I think I've gotten sponge bob addicted to G&R.

I would think the loud noise could be stressful. Think about the thump, thumping of deep base. Loud noises or music could cause vibrations, which might be felt in the tank. Also if there is a lot of different activity in the area around the tank(that part of the room being used more, a lot of people coming and going near the tank etc), the movement might be stressing or scaring the fish some too. Hopefully your tangs will be alright..

I am thinking both the temp swings and the noise might be affecting them. Remember fish have a lateral line that detects movement and vibration in the water. The vibrations from the sound could be transfered to the tank. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the responses. I was just curious what everyone thought. I really hope these two pull through. The rest of the fish are not being effected by the ich.

Figures it would be my two favorite fish. I'm keeping them fat and they are doing fine otherwise. Just did a small water change.

Both environments might cause the ich problem, but who cares? After multiple ich outbreaks (pretty much every tank I've ever owned) I learned one thing. Take them out and QT them! Oh, and UV sterilizers are the bomb. Otherwise, you’re taking a chance of losing everyone. I will never take that chance again…….with one exception.

You have to know your fish. As you gain experience, you learn the way fish behave and know who the tough guys are that might live with or fight the parasite. I’ve had a couple fish for an extended time that made it through ich, but two were removed from the tank and one still lives with it. My Hippo always has a few spots on him, but presses on with life. Otherwise, I would never take the chance of losing my fish to ich.

Robb, I know you were just asking if sound or temp can cause ich, which seems highly possible….and I know that you have a lot more experience than me, but I just don’t want anyone to take this parasite lightly. It’s freaking deadly and has caused me a lot of money and grief. I hope they pull through and none of the other guys get infected.
