Thread: Vermetid Snail Control

    Default Vermetid Snail Control

I have been noticing a lot of Vermetid Snails in my tank. I really do not like these things, especially after getting stuck with one while moving a rock. I have heard that puffers will eat these things, but are there any reef friendly fish or invertebrates that will eat these things? Maybe a wrasse?

try a six-line wrasse, or maybe a yellow coris wrasse

Or a pair of pliers... ; ) My trigger loves it when I go on a vermetid pruning spree.

Not "red bugs" bad, just "nuisance" bad. The mucus nets can smother neighboring coral when they get big, and they're just kinda unattractive. I finally got rid of mine when they started irritating too many other tank members.

I will try a coris wrasse. I think a sixline might be a bit too small and will fall prey to some of my other inhabitants.

They are not bad bad, they just hurt like hell if you get stuck by one and they can also injure fish if they hit them. I have had a few fish get torn fins from getting hooked on them.

Would a Copperband Butterfly do the trick? I have one but he doesn't seem to have a taste for them.

I wouldn't mind trying out a Radiant Wrasse.

thier shells are too tough for fish to get them. If you crush the shell with needle nose your wrasses will get em

Harlequin tusk. This is not a fish for a small reef tank. If you have a big enough reef tank, this fish is awesome.

I've got a 90 gallon tank. It might be big enough for a small harlequin tusk, but I'd have to get rid of some other fish so that I do not over tax the bio-load.
