Saltwater Pond Monster Bit Lab

OK my male lab "Handsome" jump in the saltwater pond after lounging awhile he went to get out and started acting very strange. When my husband came to get me he said the dog is dying. So I run out there to find the dog can't walk right and stumbling around. He then has some kind of fit. After not being able to find the Benadryl I popped him 2 aspirin and watched him. Well he seem fine now but what could have gotten him?

saltwater pond??? whats in there and if its saltwater did he drink any water that can mess a dog up

Yeah, without you mentioning anything about what is actually in the saltwater pond, it's kind of hard for people to help with ideas of what might have happened. List what is in the pond - fish, corals, inverts, live rock, etc.

The only things I have added to the pond is live sand and live rock. Its still in the experimental stage.

at first I was thinking a scorpionfish or something similar but after you mentioned that you only have live sand and live rock I've come to two possible conclusions.

1. Stepped on a jagged rock (you could obviously tell though)
2. Drank some water thinking it was fresh.

Bristleworm from the liverock?,,,,they can completely numb an appendage easily if it is big enough....only thing I could think of....it doesnt feel good when you get hit by one.....Dont think the dog would drink very much saltwater....nor would it cause that type of reaction......good luck, hope dog is alright

I would check for hitchikers maybe a worm like said above or a mantis. I don't think the water would affect him that bad. Especially when he tasted how salty it is but who knows.

Maybe it was just a coincidence and he was going to have an issue like that whether he got in the pond or not. I would take him to the vet just to be sure its not a neurological issue like a seizure. Better to be safe than sorry.

It is not the salt water. Jus imagin you take a sip, you won't continue. It is likely toxin from something in there. I know that polyps can be very toxic, and likely live through curing. I am fairly sure sonething like this is the probleam.

Well we were playing ball for about half hour and when they get hot and tired they will go take a dip in the pond they don't drink that water knowing already for a while that it is saltwater. It was just really weird and what was really strange all 3 were in it and he was the only one that happen to. oh and the ball never resurfaced. I have a filter running in it now to clear the water to see if i can see anything but that's going to take a day or so.
