How to skin a stand?

Anyone have any instructions on how to do this? I don't have any skills when it comes to carpentry, and I think I can make the frame okay, but was just wondering what's involved in skinning a stand?

I plan on following this design for the frame for a 125g to help skin it better:

im thinking of using something like ash or red oak and my stand will be about 45" tall

I used pine bead board on mine. Easy enough to cut, glue, nail on and paint. I will try to remember to post a pic of it later today. I still have to make a door but the rest of the stand is finished.

45" tall? You sure better make sure you don't have any sway in your stand!!!

Essentially you could just put magnets on your stand, and on the inside of your skin and make the entire front removable. Use thin, light, absorbent boards for your fascia, pine works well. Skinning the stand can be simple enough. Take a drawing with some measurements to HD and explain that you could use some help. They could probably get you going very easily.

Here are some pics from my build a couple of years ago:








The framing was done with 2x4, then I just skinned it with 1/2" birch plywood. Made the cutouts for the doors with a jigsaw (before i had all my tools). It's not hard, just build your frame. Then go to lowes, HD, after you know what your outside measurements need to be, they should be able to cut everything for you on the panel saw. Then all you have to do is screw down/or use brad nails and stain. HTH

thanks ace! Yea, i got the idea from a guy on reef central when I did it. It was a awesome, full access to he inside of the tank, and the lights were bright enough so see everything in the tank.
