    Default vortech or tunze

i am looking at changing the power heads i have in the tank and i either want to go with a wavebox or something equally powerfull. i have been looking at the waveboxes now for a while. i would really like some input on which people perfer. i am thinking if the vortech i want 2 MP40. right now i have a 215 72*24*30 and ONE very annoying dead spot with almost NO flow. any input would be nice like why one would be better or which one performs better. doesnt have to be a wavebox either can be 2 powerheads with controllers too.

    thanks

I have a 6ft 180 gallon and have been looking for quite some time. I was about to purchase Vortechs, then a wavebox, but after some discussions, went with two of the Tunze 6105s and two of the Tunze 6055s (controllable nanostreams) with the 7096 multicontroller. I was amazed at the flow they put out and couldn't be happier. My corals also love them. All my SPS has seen increased extension.

You can also get a wave going with just two 6105s inverse to each other. The multi controller 7096 has a function for this.

Im hopefully getting my MP40 today, even though I have no Tunzes to compare it to, Ill give my opinion either way once I get it installed and working correctly. This will be going in a 3' tank, a 180's a whole different world...

Glassbox design did a good article comparing the two, and after their testing they preferred the Vortech. Also, RCA here in Austin has a big sale coming up and will be selling the MP40 for $319.00.

saw that pmed to find out how many they would have. i am not gooing to drive up there and get there early to save the money if they have 1 or 2. cause my luck i would get there an they sold one and had one left or sold the only one they had. so soon as i know i may go that way just have to see

i like the new tunzes for the fact that they are multi positional(not sure if real word like making my own) so you can change the direction. price ways they seem about the same.

thanks jim look forward to hearing your comparisons.

I have a MP40. I had it on a 5' tank, now on a 2' cube. It rocks both. But, if your looking to get actual waves like I was on my 5 footer, that didn't happen with just one. It did do a great job of flow, both random and patterns, but it seemed to be working at it's capacity on the larger tank. Also, seemed a little noisy at times.

i am thinking about 2 6105 an a multi controller. or a 6105 and a 6205 to get some SERIOUS movement in the tank. but not set still looking for input.

thanks ace i was wondering about sound since pump is outside. WHAT does the WIRELESS feature i see on some of the pumps is there some type of remote to them or something to that effect?

I believe the wireless feature is used to syncronize two pumps together. There is no remote though. It comes hardwired to a controller.
