Heading to Corpus next week for first time
I know there are a bunch of threads on the area, but more info never hurts. We will be staying on the naval station for two nights. We will be hitting the beaches for a couple of days. Surf fishing, and I would like to get out to the Port A jetties on the last night to get some peps. How do you get to the jetties? Is it through Mustang Island state park? How are the park beaches? Clean? Fishing any good there? I want to make sure the beaches are decent for my daughter. I can fish anywhere. I guess the other option is Padre seashore. As far as my creature catching setup. Dip net? Obviously a headlight will be good. Bucket, aerator. How safe is it out there at night? Not refering to the footing. Thanks for any advice! And feel free to add anything I didn't ask.

The jetties are in Port A not at the state park. All of the beaches are very nice and they keep them pretty clean. Personally I wouldnt pay the extra money to go to the state park beaches they are just the same as the other ones, you will need a beach parking pass though and you can get them at most Stripes stores. As far the the peps go you really just need a dip net, bucket, aerator and light. Also you will need to get a saltwater fishing license to legally collect anything there. I have never ran into any trouble out there and feel it is pretty safe. If theres any other questions you have feel free to ask. Oh, also are you goign to be checking out the LFS, if you are there are two, Tropical Fish Haven and Aquarium Masters. Both offer some good stuff but have quite different selections.

ive stayed alot at the naval base its nice so is the pier that by the rv hookups, ok fishing most of the time. if you really like surf fishing theres always little shell big shell, on the national seashore past mustang island, they say you need four wheel drive but you can get pretty far down without it and really good fishing. but like stated above the free beaches are good also.
