how about maybe using something like a nylon mesh, that you can glue on, you could cover the top with it or make like a small wall against the overflow...just a thought.

Great point Steve. What if a cover was made that is 3 or so inches bigger than the overflow on the tank side? Then if the fish jumps, it will hit the acrylic and land back in the tank. Hopefully the fish will change its behavior and no longer try to jump.

What about making the cover so it slopes towards the inside of the tank? That way if a fish gets caught on top, it will gradually be forced downwards to the water..

How about a little trampoline? No...on a serious note, anything over the overflow will be dry and heated already. The fish will stick and possibly not slide back into the tank. I'm not trying to be a pain but I know what always happens to me...
