    Default Thought I'd indroduce myself

    Hey everyone,

I have been hanging around for a couple of weeks now and thought I would formally introduce myself. My name is Logan Squiers and I am currently a Masters student in Marine Biology at TAMUCC in Corpus and will graduate in August. I mainly do genetics of corals, and for my Thesis, I did a bunch of DNA sequencing of Fire Coral(Millepora sp.) that I collected from the Bahamas. I have only been keeping aquariums for a little over a year now, but have learned a ton in this short amount of time and am hooked!

My fiance got me into it with her freshwater tank and from there we set up a "Gulf tank" that we put stuff we collected from the Port Aransas jetties in. This was good for a while, but then I got the bug and had to have some different corals and fish so we set up a 20 gallon tank. The tank has evolved over the past year and now we are running a Nova Extreme 4x54W T5 fixture, AquaC remora skimmer, a HOB filter, and a Rio 800 ph.

Currently our livestock includes Red sea Xenia, two types of Anthelia, Eunecia sp., 5 different types of Zoa's (not sure on the names), some rhodactis mushrooms, yellow poyps, green star polyps, candy canes, a Capnella sp., Frogspawn w/ about 5 heads(2 big, the other are new), and a new frag of Galaxea. We dont have any fish at this time, but I have been looking for a 6-line wrasse to help with my recent flatworm issue.

I recently purchased a used 75 gallon RR tank that I am super excited to get set up but have to wait 6 months until we move to a more permanent house so I dont have to tear it down twice in 6 months. I'm not really sure how to post pictures yet, but once I figure it out I will put some up some up for ya'll to see. Ok, thats enough rambling for me tonight. I am hoping to learn a bunch here and share the knowledge I have as well.

Welcome! It'd be interesting to hear about some of your studies. I plan to go to college and study Marine Biology as well. Not really sure which "branch", though.

Lol, I was wondering when you'd show up around here, Logan! Incidentally, I've got a friend coming into town from New Mexico this week and we're going to be doing some collecting out in Port A and probably around Fish Pass if you're interested. I'm sure that local reefer Jarob will probably be joining us as well.

Haha, hey Jason, I just posted to your over thread about snorkeling so make sure you check it out. I dont know Jarob, but I'm sure I will get to know him soon. Howd you make out in D&P?

LittleReef, if you ever have any questions just let me know I would be glad to help. I will be starting my Ph.D. in September so I will be continuing my research, but always like to lend a hand where I can.
