Well that tank if its 30X30X36 will be around a 140gal which is well above the tank size it would need... even a 24X24X36 is 90 gal which is still over the min required tank size.. I think 75 gal is the min recomened.. I think...

in my limited experiance with volitans they seem to be rather stationary hunters, so i think you will probably be ok with this tank as far as dimensions and water volume go. but keep in mind that 'recommened' tank sizes for fish is assuming you have a standard rectangular aquarium. some fish require significant tank length for swimming, such as a sohol for example. so if it is 'recommended' that the sohol be in a 200 gallon aquarium, you still wouldn't want to put such a fish in a very tall but not so long aquarium.

OK I think i have adjusted my tank size to be 30X30X36 and will use the over flow method mentioned before, so i will have three 2in bulk heads put in for the overflow and back up for a return pump I am looking at at mag 24 and a mag 36, with a twist though, i want to have the back pane of glass drilled to have 2 one in bulk heads put in.
One slightly below center of the back wall and one towards the top so that I would and should have superb flow with no addition pumps needed. If i calculated all right sump and tank should be well over 200-250 gal total, so my thoughts are a mag 36 would be ideal due to head preasures and that from the pump to top of tank would be close to 4 ft.
Thoughts?

Don't have any info for you just a question. I had a lion with a sump and no skimmer and he died. Everyone said I needed a skimmer with lions and other aggressive fish. Why have you decided to not have a skimmer and what will you do to keep the water quality where it should be? (I'm kind of new at this if you can't tell. All advice appreciated. Thanks.)
