John, I don't think my bryopsis was either plumosa or pennata. It was much finer than photos of either of those show.

maybe from the Pacific then. Those are the only two species I know of personally, but that doesn't mean much. So much diversity in macros. I think it would be a good idea to have a thread of "Who has tried magnesium on byropsis without results", and try to see if there is differences in the species, or to see if there is some other parameter that is also important etc....

in your research bill did you come across any good sites? 10 species of byropsis in Florida alone, lots of variation of plumosa and pennata, but the other species are considered uncommon or rare. Have never seen them or drawings, but I have written descriptions to work with.

There's not a lot on the different species - a fair amount on plumosa and pennata - enough to determine that isn't what I had.
