Un-level tank..problem?

Okay so I filled my new 90g with fresh water to check for leaks and noticed that it's not quite level....floor must be unlevel!!! It's about 1/2 inch off. Do I need to level it up and if so how? It's sitting on a standard 90g wooden stand that's sitting on the tile floor of my living room! I'm hopeing to get it filled with salt water in the next 2 weeks....it's been a long time coming!

I would do it now, because I know how I am with my tank and that would KILL me later!!! If your anything like me, its gona constantly be on your mind until its fixed and better now while the tank is empty.

Shim it. An unlevel tank can lead to a split seam, since there is more pressure on one end. A half an inch is alot, I would be concerned...

Oh, if you want to level it, I would recommend emptying the tank and using a spot level on the inside of the tank (little thing with the bubble in the middle with lines to measure accuracy) and a couple small slats of plywood or something solid.

I always place a thin sheet of styrofoam between the stand and the aquarium to offset any uneveness. Make sure the entire system is completely level or you will have issues.

1/2" is nothing. Seriously.

Is it a decent quality tank? If so, I wouldn't worry too much. Just think about our poor friends in California that go thru earthquakes.

As long as the platform it is sitting on is consistent, you should be fine. I'm loooking at my 55 right now that's about 1/2" off, and has been for 5 years.

With all that being said, if it drives you a little nuts now, you should fix it now. A lot easier now than later.

BTW, we are talking about hydrostatic pressure. The difference is really nothing/

Actually in places where earthquakes are common, the preffered aquarium is acrylic over glass to avoid splitting since acrylic is molecularly sealed. The stands generally have large lips around the aquarium to help keep the aquarium on the stand. Finally the stand is bolted to a stud in the wall or bolted to the floor.

I'll be taking the water out today since this was just a test run and I'll get it level. It will drive me nuts knowing that it's not. So just adding some plywood under the stand on one end would be okay?
