Default Looking for chocolate lab pups

We are beginning to start looking for a chocolate lab puppy. Anyone have any suggestions where to start looking? Or have any recommendations on who to buy from? Thanks!

If you decide to change colors try mywhitelabs.com, North Austin (Cedar Park) The male puppy we purchased is just as lovable as you can find. Not a bad retriever either. The owner has an unbelievable setup.

The shelters usually always have Lab pups that are slated for death! That and Lab Rescue would be the places I would start. No offense, but I prefer not to encourage breeding when they are millions killed every year, just my opinion though.

I wouldn't think Lab pups would ever get put down due to their demand, heck most of the shelters I've been to have a hard time keeping any pure bred dogs there for more than a week.

Kyle, if you find a good source with a hunting background or field trials please share. We're planning on picking up a new pup this summer but I'm getting antsy and having trouble waiting. Shelter pups will not work well enough for a working dog for us though, we need them at 7 weeks.

You apparently don't go to the shelters often enough. Labs and Pit Bulls are two of the most overbred dogs out there. Every 3 days at the Austin shelter, they have pretty much a new round of dogs in...that means they kill approximately 50-60 dogs and cats a day...and that's just one shelter. I have seen litters of Labs left there and purebred adults as well. Funny that they are in such high demand because you can ask any Lab Rescuer and they will say that they are contacted constantly by shelters and just don't have room for them all.

True I don't, but last time we went in to pick up a new kitty the lady laughed at me when I asked if they ever get any labs, she said they get some but if you're not standing at the door when they open in the morning you're not getting one because they go so fast and she also noted that most people don't drop off any pure breeds because they can easily sell them for a discounted amount. Next time you see a litter of young lab pups at a shelter up there I'd love to know about them because I'm in the market anyway, I don't care about papers but I do care about either a pure breed or a quality mix (none of that unknown garbage).

there are at least 3-5 different rescue org's within an hour of you that have pure bred labs available 7 days a week. I rescued a pure bred Red Bone Coon Hound recently, and it is significantly more rare of a find than a chocolate. Like mentioned above lookup Chocolate lab rescue and San Antonio or South Texas, and the options are there.

Puppies? There are obviously full grown dogs at the lab rescue places because nobody wants a full grown dog.
