Thread: Plumbing question for a 30 gallon

Default Plumbing question for a 30 gallon

OK, so I know I haven't quite finished my 125, but I am getting another 30 long tank together. I have everything I need to get it going, but I was thinking of plumbing a little differently. I have a 700gph mag and 500 gph odyssea. Both have been used as return pumps in the past.

I have a 16"long x 6"tall x 3"front to back calfo that Ace built with 2- 3/4 inch durso exterior drains(it is like the mini version of my 125).

I am going to run my 700gph as my return that is going to split into 2(traditional), but I have enought room to add the additional 500gph in the sump(heat is not an issue), and I was think of plumbing it up and around the tank in a square with 6 small "jets pointed down into the tank. The flow wouldn't be extremely hi, but it would add some current changes throughout the tank.

What do you think? Good, bad?

BTW my lighting will be 1 175w 20k Metal Halide in the middle retrofit. Not issue there.

If it were me I'd run the Mag5 for your return and put the Mag7 on a SQWD with the similar manifold setup you are talking about just have it switch from one side to the other.

I didn't even think about using a SCWD. I have one that is current plumbed into my 125 that I decided not to use. It is shut off at a ball valve. I think I will remove it and go with your idea. thanks!

I just ended up making a manifold for my new 58 gallon that has three outlets running down each side of the tank and will be on a SQWD from my return IWAKI pump. Made it a solid section that hangs over the tank and used a ball valve in the middle to separate off the two sides and and inlet from each arm of the SQWD going to each side.

Hopefully it turns out like I'm thinking.
