I need some help on upgrading the sound system in my 2004 pontiac grand am, four doors.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what speakers I need for the front doors. On best buy's website all the 6.5" and similar size speakers say that they do not fit my car. All the 6x9" speakers fit but I am assuming those are just for behind the back seat. So what size is for the doors?

Anyone have any input on the deck?

Also, bestbuy said that to install just the deck would be $50, plus another $110 because of the kind of car I have. Does anyone know of a better installation option? Preferably one that doesn't cost almost as much as the deck.

Can you install speakers by yourself? If so, does anyone know of any good articles.

you can do itl by your self and save a lot of money ... i have some Rockford fosgate 6*9's that i could sell you they were 160 new ....

its really not hard if you go to circuit city they will give you some tips well they gave me some ... the doors are a lot easier then installing the deck IMO

The head unit and cabling are one of the most important things, a crappy head unit and low end cabling can make Focal sound like Pyramid speakers.

very true ... i think i might even have a eclipse EQ ....


what kind of head unit and speakers for mids and highs ... subs??? will the mids and highs be on an external amp ??

I installed custom systems for 2 years! Ask me whatever you want and I can prolly tell you! The head unit is a good start. It has 3 preouts, this allows you to upgrade and expand! If I remember right your front doors have 4x6 speakers. I would make pods and fit 6.5 components all the way around! Then run a small 4 channel amp on all the speakers. Then If you want to add subs if you want too.

Oh yeah and if you want to do this stuff yourself check out www.crutchfield.com! They give instuctions on everything you buy from them. The reason your head unit install is more money is because the door "dinger'' RUNS THRU THE RADIO. Im not sure why they do it that way but they do. So they install an extra little box that dings because the aftermarket unit will not do it.

You should check out www.crutchfield.com . They have all the questions you would want answered. But to answer your specific question, if you do not have the monsoon system or on-star, your fronts are 4X6 and your rears are 6X9.
