Eheim 2213 - Silly Question
It's time to change the media, but someone else set this up for me and I'm having a tough time getting the lid off! I've shut down the nozzles, disconnected and unplugged, brought it into the kitchen sink, unhooked the metal clamps and for the life of me can't get the top off? The gray plastic top should come all the way off like this, I believe:

I know this is a ridiculous question, but am I missing something? Does it just need more elbow grease?

You need to open the valve on top of the unit. The 2 valves that you closed to remove it from the lines is keeping the suction tight.
Love my Eheims, have about 2 dozen pumps/canister filters.
Might I ask why you plan to change the media? In the several years I've been running their canister filters, I've never changed the media, only rinsed it off.

Filters...not media....long Saturday!
I mis-typed.....it's time for the 6 month change of filters I was advised to do when I inherited the tank....not the media. She told me to change the canister filters every 6 months and the over the tank filter every 3.
THANK YOU!!! The valve on top is exactly what was making it stick.
