question about blue tang

Hey guys, would it be a good idea to pick up a cleaner shrimp if I bought a blue tang, a purple tang, or a kole tang? I already have a banded coral shrimp. Should I swap them out??

some shrimp do not get along together but they will find thier own place and stay away from each other. I think a cleaner shrimp is always a good ideal no matter what fish youare keeping. I noticed you have a 29gl tank. Keep in mind tangs sometimes grow slow but they get pretty big. They require lots of swim room!! other readers correct me if i am wrong.!!

It is defiantly a good idea, and it can only help the tank. The shrimp may fight, but as tropheusmaster said, they may find their own spot and not. In a 75 gallon, I'm unsure if they would be likely to fight, I've never had a coral banded shrimp. Also, tangs require a large span of swimming space to be happy and healthy. You could keep a small tang in a 75 but when it really starts to grow large it will be very cramped in that tank. So approach the tang with caution if you decide to get one, and know that a large tang probably not be too happy in a 4' tank (I believe they are 4' long). Just my opinion, someone with more knowledge about tangs then me is sure to chime in.

Live aquaria said that a blue tang could reside in a 70 gallon. I agree. I kindof thought of that twice, and I personally think that a 75 would be on the small side, you know?

i have a 180 and with 3 tangs it seems smaller and smaller

lots of times the websites will give an appropriate tank size for the fish that they are selling, considering the fish's size at that time. saltwaterfish.com lists (or did, I havnt checked in a while) blue tangs for 40 gallon tanks, but thats just for the small ones they sell.
