Depends on what type of clam...some require more light such as crocea since they live in shallow waters whereas derasas are generally found as deep as 25 meters...as far as nutrition, they rely on their zoxanthellae but are also filter feeders...they also require consistent levels of calcium for their shells...as far as parameters, temp - max growth ratesachieved between 82-86! kinda high...salinity - 1.025 - 1.027...calcium 380 - 450 ppm...pH 8.2....alk - 2.1-2.5 meq/L....They also need strong currents....one of the things that is often missed is to think about compatability with reef inhabitants from hermit crabs to trigger fish... James Fatherree wrote an excellent book "Giant Clams in the Sea and the Aquarium" where I got a lot of this info from....great resource

www.rotifers.com check out how to culture them. It's pretty easy looking, all you need is a 5 gallon bucket and an airstone. Feed them some phyto feast and feed your tank 1/3 of the 5g bucket per day. EZ food that replenishes itself. If you had gone to the meeting you would have been awed! I think we were all hypnotized.

I was there and I Live in Corpus Christ. It was the best meeting I've ever attended and well worth the drive, gas, and time. I wish that I had video taped it. Trust Erik, get your rottifer culture started as soon as you can.
