Predator Tank Lights....
I have a 150gal Predator tank. It is 72by30by18. For filtration have a skimmer rated to 220, a wet dry rated at 200 and a large refug, with mangrove shoots, several diff algea, and MM in it. It has over 150Lb of LR and a 4-5in bed of sand. It houses only a few fish, due to it being a fairly new(2 months) old tank. A yellow headed moray 12+in, a Black Lion10+ with fins spread, and a sand flounder, as well as two feeder Damsels(HA started with four to check the water out and the lion has stalked two out so far). I want to get enough lighting to promote positve algea growth purples and red instead of the blah, as well as maybe putting in a few Anenomes (sp). I have heard that T5s would be enough, but since the tank is 30in deep and 18 wide, how many T5 bulbs would I need? I am not going to put any corals or anything like that in this tank, just want lots of positive growth. The rock as of now has some thats staying about the same size, but the rest of the rock is slowly being covered in brown algea. Yes the nitrates are still a little high (nothing over 20ppm depending on the test kit I use), but are dropping fast. So would two 36in T5 light (total of 4 bulbs two reg and to blue) be enough to see a large improvement of purple growth or will I need higher? Of course I do not want to spend tons of money on the lights either, I know if I want optimum growth I should get some MH lights but I think this would be overkill dont you? Just trying to get some color in the tank. ---Thanks

Thanks, does anyone else have thoughts on it? I know its not a reef tank, but i want some serious growth on my rocks to give it some color... Do you think that the 2 bulb T5 would be enough?
